You know the color you want. You just can't name it.

The hallway needs a touch-up and nobody remembers what was on the wall. A chair at a friend's house is exactly the green you've been picturing for the bedroom. Paint chips at the store never look the same under your own lights. PaintFox turns the color in front of you into a specific paint you can walk into a store and buy.

Everything in the app, and why it's there

  • Live camera matching

Point your camera at a wall, fabric, furniture, or paint chip and see the closest paint matches in real time. No sensor, dongle, or extra hardware.

  • Room Scan

Sample your walls and your furniture separately to see what's already in your space, then find colors that work alongside them instead of fighting them.

  • Match from photos

Pull a color straight out of a shot in your camera roll, so inspiration you captured weeks ago still turns into a usable paint code.

  • Thousands of real paint colors

Matches are ranked by accuracy across catalogs from Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Farrow & Ball, Valspar, Dulux, and PPG, so you can match once and buy wherever you shop.

  • HEX, RGB, and harmonies

Every shade shows its HEX and RGB values, and you can build complementary, analogous, or triadic combinations around it. Useful when the paint has to match a logo, a print, or a digital mockup.

  • Offline and on device

The color catalog lives on your phone, so matching is fast and stays private — handy in a basement, a garage, or a store aisle with no signal.

How it works

  1. Aim at the color

Open the camera and point it at the wall, fabric, or object you want to match. Or pick a photo from your camera roll instead.

  2. Compare the matches

See the closest paint colors ranked by accuracy, with HEX and RGB values, and put close candidates side by side.

  3. Save what you like

Keep colors in My Favorites so every project's shades stay in one place when you head to the store.

Questions

Does PaintFox cost anything?

The app is free, including live camera matching, photo matching, and saving colors to My Favorites. An optional Premium subscription adds custom palettes, exporting and sharing paint data, extra harmony tools, and saving beyond the free My Favorites limit.

Do I need a color sensor or other hardware?

No. Matching works with the camera already in your iPhone, or with photos you've already taken.

Which paint brands are covered?

Colors from leading paint makers including Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Farrow & Ball, Valspar, Dulux, and PPG.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. The color catalog is stored on your device, so matching works offline and your samples stay on your phone.

How exact is the match?

PaintFox finds the closest shades in its catalog and ranks them by accuracy — it gives you candidates, not a guarantee. Lighting affects what the camera sees, so compare the top results side by side and check a physical chip before you commit to a gallon.

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
